DVD drive compatibility

#1 Post by Meta03 » Tue Aug 16, 2011 1:23 pm

Is the CD/DVD drive not compatible between T500 and older T models? If not, why is this so? They seem to be the same size, but the connector is different.

There has been several changes to the Ultrabay over the years. Refer to this page:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay

As to "Why?", it mainly has to do with newer standards being developed. Like the change to SATA-interfaced drives on the T500 series, from the older PATA interface. The change in connectors merely means that you can't mistakenly plug the wrong drive into an incompatible Ultrabay. On the flip side, you also can't use any of the older drives with today's generation of laptops.
