Hi All,

Anyone know if the non-Lenovo batteries are any good? Or is it worth it to shell out a bit more for the proprietary batteries.

Thanks

In my own experience with them, third party batteries tend not to last as long and wear more quickly. If you're OK with that, then maybe they're worth a look.

Thanks. After some reading, I've decided to play it safe and go Lenovo off ebay. $100 for a 9 cell, rather than $178 from Lenovo.

I tried a third-party battery for my T60. I did my best to read user reviews and pick a reliable-seeming one. It was garbage: fairly quickly, the retaining slide broke off, and the battery was then wedged inside the slot, taking serious force to dislodge it. Also, even before that happened, it quickly developed connectivity problems due to a poor fit; the laptop would randomly shut off.

I buy and sell machines. If I get a machine with an aftermarket battery, I save the time it takes to test the battery. I just recycle it.

This question keeps coming up again and again, and is still baffling me from time to time... Sometimes the price of 3rd party ones is really enticing...

In short...

1. Get official ones. Not too old (lithium rechargeable ages even not used). Sometimes you may find bargain ones.
2. Get one from a reputable source. E.g. Check forums, recommendation by friends (who've used it for >1-year), seller ratings.

From my limited experience, the cheapies will stop working, or hold <50% charge after 1-year.

Cheers.
