And with that, I'm back, too! 8) I'm going to carry the new T series as part of my business. However, NO IPS, according to another thread, NO decent screens, others have alluded to cheap manufacturing...so I dare ask the question...is it time to jump ship to another manufacturer?

I wouldn't even know where to begin. I've owned 12 Thinkpads in 9 years.

What do you think, guys?

T400 and T500 are two generations behind the current machines. You should look at T420 and T520. Also T420s and W520. All fine machines.

The only IPS option in Lenovo's current offerings is on the X220 series.

FWIW, I like the 1600X900 screen on my T420 just fine despite the fact that it's not IPS (and not 16:10... grrr). It's a step up from many previous non-IPS ThinkPad screens in terms of pixel-level quality IMO, and similar to Dell UltraSharp screens I've owned in the past. The build quality is very good.

Yes, if you have the money and are looking for the highest quality laptops (including screen quality), you should look into the HP Elitebook 8560w and 8760w. The Dell Precision M4600 and M6600 are possibly slightly lower quality, but still very good. All of these have optional IPS screens.

I've had a T510 for over a year and am absolutely delighted with it. It is almost silent, has a wonderful HD screen, and has been totally reliable.

This afternoon my bank manager paid us a visit and brought his (the bank's) laptop with him. It was a ThinkPad T4XX. When I commented on it he said he has a ThinkPad at home for personal use. His opinion is that they are brilliant.

Now if Lloyds Banking Group's buyers favour ThinkPads then there must be something that persuaded them ... which brings us back to the 6 reasons why people buy things (which I have mentioned before on these forums):

Security
Performance
Appearance
Convenience
Economy
Durability

ThinkPad T4XX/5XX series machines pass muster on all counts.
