Skype not picking up my T420 mic?

I bought a T420 a couple of months ago and when I use Skype I have to use an external headset as the person I am talking to says that they cannot hear me. They see my lips moving, but they're not able to hear anything unless I speak really loud. It seems that the sensitivity of the microphone is too low but I can't figure out how to fix this. I don't think it's an issue with Skype itself as I can understand my callers using their built in microphones (on laptops that cost a lot less than my £1,200 T420!)

Does anyone know of a fix for this? Is it a common issue?

Have you checked the mic recording level?

Fn+F6 then click on Audio defaults and settings... then click on the Recording tab. There is a meter on the right that will show rising green bars as you speak.

Click on the Internal Microphone once to select it then click on the Properties button. Click on the Levels tab and make sure the level is set to 100 and maybe try increasing the Boost.

Hope that helps.
