Hello,

at the moment I am using a T60.
Overall, I am very satisfied about this laptop (except for its heat) but I am looking for a new one because the T60 has become very slow.

1) How big will the improvement be T60 versus T410?

2) Is it possible to play some games with the T410 (intel video card)?

3) Does the T410 become as hot as the T60?

4) I would like to use the T60 in the future as my second choice laptop. Will the T60 be a lot faster if I upgrade to 4 or 5 GB RAM?

Thanks a lot!

1) In terms of CPU performance you would notice a boost in speed even in general applications like web surfing, etc. In terms of CPU performance, you would probably notice very little difference, they should give you about the same performance. It is hard to give you a quantitative answer, as this would really depend on applications and how intensively you use your application.

2) the Intel HD has about the same performance as the X1400, so not sure whether that is worth the money, since the boost in performance for most games from your T60 to the T410 wouldn't be really significant.

3) The i5-560m does run slightly hot, probably similar to the T60 of yours.

4) the T60 can only use 3 gigs, so you can't get it to utilise more than 3 gigs.

My corporate machines are a 14" T60 and a 14" T410, with similar specs (except my T60 has Intel GPU and 2GB RAM, the T410 has SSD and a slightly slower CPU).

I like them both for various reasons. The T410 is newer, faster, and has better expansion options. It is also (negligibly) lighter and has better battery life. The T60 on the other hand is equipped with the high-resolution 1400x1050 screen, which in my opinion is much nicer all-around than the 1440x900.

I believe that a T410 is a worthy upgrade, but it is great to have the T60 around as a secondary laptop (which is exactly what I do). I think that 1GB may be a bigger performance killer than one may imagine. With 2-3GB (and perhaps a fresh operating system install), a T60 w/ T7200 is still quite capable for every day tasks.

Thanks for the answers!

For the Europeans: is €550 for a brand new T410 (with the specs I mentioned above) a good deal?
