I have a T410, i5 processor, and 2GB of RAM.
I've noticed RAM seems to be a lot cheaper than when I bought some in the past so intend to throw a few more GB in.
However, I'm now confused on what is the maximum supported amount for my system. I always remembered that 32bit windows only supported 3.5GB (ish) but anything over that could be utilised by the integrated graphics. Lenovo state that my machine will support a maximum of 8GB, is this true? Can my system handle 8GB of RAM? Is there any point, will the system only be able to use 3.5GB and then the rest would be overkill for the integrated graphics?
Cheers.

Re: How much is supported?
It depends on the OS installed on your computer. If running the 32 bit version of Windows, then yes, 3 - 3.5 gb will only be visible. Your i5 processor is 64 bit capable (theoretically maximum is 128gb or something for a 64bit processor, can't remember for sure).
Your machine, I believe will support 8gb of ram (might be higher). I don't know if you will personally notice a difference from 4gb to 8gb, but going from 2gb to 4/8gb you may notice a difference. I did on my T400s, quite a big difference actually. Right now with RAM prices, I'm finding that 4gb is the sweet spot for laptops and 8gb for desktops.
Good luck!

ritchie888,
Under 32-bit version Windows memory structure, it can maximum support 4GB - [memory addresses for I/O and Intergrated Graphic]. It makes in most case, the main memory remains 3.0~3.5GB although the user puts 4GB or more RAM in the PC.
64-bit version Windows may support >4GB RAM. If you have >4GB RAM in the PC, you may choose 64bit version Windows.
