Thinkpad L520 deadlock

#1 Post by DrThinkpad » Tue May 09, 2017 8:07 pm

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend's L520 keep getting a deadlock once every few hours. The laptop hangs, nothings responds, the image stays on and the cursor can't move, so I have to hard reboot it.

I think the HDD is out of the equation, as it has been replaced by a Kingston SSD. My next guess would be a driver problem, or the memory.

It is running on Windows 10.

Anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour on a Thinkpad before ?

Did you check the Windows 10 event viewer / bluescreenview?
Did you try running the laptop in something other than Windows 10 like in the UEFI/BIOS for an extended period of time to see if it locks there?
Did you run a memory test with memtestx86+?

Did someone "upgrade" the CPU to a 3rd Gen (like i5-3340M) by any chance?
If so, downgrade again to 2nd Gen (like i5-2430M).
Otherwise I'd blame Micro$haft and its forced-down-your-throat W10.
Download and try a live-Linux CD.
E.g. Zorin is quite close in looks to Windows and might be a W10 replacement! https://sourceforge.net/projects/zorin- ... p_redirect
If all else fails, go back to W7.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
