Changing from Vista 32 bit to 64 bit OS , any issues ?

Hi all,

I just bought a ThinkPad SL500, and I need to uninstall Vista 32 bit, and install either a Win XP 64 bit, or Ubuntu 64 bit.

I did some research in this forum, and I found out about certain issues the people were having with 64 bit drivers (XP). What I'd like to know is that have others been successful overcoming driver issues, or any other incompatibilities, with either Win XP or Ubuntu 64 bit ?

Also I'm about to do a full hard drive format, and I see 3 partitions C,D,E, ( C- Service003 and E- Lenovo, D - main OS ). Do I do any unrepairable damage if I delete partition C and E ?

Appreciate any input .

Vista 64 has full driver support from Lenovo, so it's probably the easiest option in that sense.

You don't have to keep the restore partitions if you don't plan on using them. I dumped mine on my W500 when I reinstalled Windows.

Thanks for replying,

I already installed Win XP 64 bit, and everything went fine. I know that on Toshiba laptop the Vista drivers work OK with XP 64 bit, so I'm hoping the same with SL500.
