sl300 cannot get 1680x1050 on external monitor

I have a sl300 that i am unable to output my external monitors native resolution. (I'm running vista business x64 but there are drivers available for that)

the monitor is a 22" samsung that runs 1680x1050 native, i'm currently using an old stationary ibm netvista that has no problem supplying the resolution. Switching the vga-cable to my sl300 though does not work.

I'm getting something like 1440x which looks crazy, the icons and text is smudgy and out of focus.

I checked intels website for their graphics-drivers and they had an article (that i cannot find now) where they recommended using another of their drivers to get 1680x1050 working. I did install that but what it does is just say it switched to 1680 but the monitor doesn't recieve it anyway. (i've tried using the auto-correct button but that doesn't help).

Has anyone been able to get it to work? If so, what driver and what os are you using? We're an it-consultant business with ms action-pack licenses so i can switch to whatever works.
