SL500 Wireless Internet issue

#1 Post by EC12 » Sun Apr 19, 2009 10:06 pm

Hello all.

So my original problem was, for some reason - somewhat randomly - my wireless would stop working. And I had to restart the computer, or that was my fix anyway. It started to happen more and more frequently, so I did an internet search and fiddled with location switching and stuff like that. This actually fixed it for a little while. Then it started to stop wireless again for no reason, intensely irritating.

Well, I did something which made things worse, I uninstalled access connections entirely. And it did work for a while. But now it only works for a few minutes before saying limited connectivity. I tried all the suggestions in the network diagnose and none of them fixed it. Also every time I start up my computer, I have to turn wireless capabilities on - I never used to.

So after reading the FAQ, I've concluded that I probably just didn't know how to use access connections properly, so how do I reinstall access connections? And how do I fix my problem once I've reinstalled it, Thank you in advance for any responses this is so frustrating!

Laptop details: I don't know, Vista, SL500 what else is there?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

(Sorry for the late reply)

I've found that Vista is fairly sensitive to working properly with "older" wireless access points. In my case, my normal wireless system at home runs off a Netgear ME102 (802.11b). Two Vista machines, an R61 and an SL500, along with a Macbook, have problems with connecting and keeping the connection stable. As soon as I change over to my D-Link WRT54G, all connection problems, on all of those systems, goes away. All of my XP systems, running a variety of wireless cards, did not have any problems with the Netgear AP. My suggestion would be to try a different access point and see what happens.

Thank you very much for the reply. Sorry for my late reply, I'd pretty much given up hope that someone could spare some time for me. Unfortunately I'm stuck with the wireless one that I currently have, and now that you mention, other wireless laptops don't have the same problem, and they're not vista so you could be right.
