DVD drive suddenly stopped working

Hej,

yesterday the MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ870A on my SL500 stopped working, all of a sudden, after a mere 4 month. Cannot open it, not by pressing the button, not by commanding Vista to eject it. A needle helps, but no media is accepted when inserted. When booting, the green diode at the drive's front flashes once, no other indications from the drive otherwise.

The strange thing is that the Device Manager tells me that it is working properly. Even the emulation via Virtual CloneDrive no longer works?!

Any idea? What else can I try? Guess I'll have to send it in...

You could try removing the drive and re-inserting it and see if that clears up the problem:

On page 64 there's instructions for removing the optical drive. Naturally, do this the the power off :) .
