SL400 Windows XP

#1 Post by paracelsus » Fri May 08, 2009 4:11 am

I have a ThinkPad SL400 2743-4MG with Intel graphic card. I installed to it a Win XP SP3, but it was too slaw. I read that the Intel dont support the chipset on XP.
Help me, please! What can I do?

When you say "slow", how is it slow? XP should be supported since all the drivers are located on Lenovo's website. Did you run PC-Doctor to see if there's any issues?

The "slow" mean that the boot and the explorer is very very slow. I called the lenovo support and they said that the Intel doesnt support the XP on this model, but I think somebody know a solution to this, any hack or other.

This seems like a problem with the sata drivers for your HD. It may be in compatibility mode after the xp install.

Here are some instructions for a clean install on a sl500(same as sl400). In part 1 it mentions the HDD driver.

Try to install the driver and see if it helps.

I have found Vista Basic to run pretty good on an SL400 (2Ghz duo, with 2 Gigs of RAM). I had originally planned on installing XP but now having second doubts of having to do all this work now and later have to do a clean upgrade Win 7 when it launches.

What is the consensus on Vista running on these machines ?

TIA...
