SSD is not detected in BIOS (Intel X25-E)

#1 Post by Rapide518 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 12:14 am

I just bought a new SSD disk (Intel X25-E) and inserted into my SL 300 laptop. However, it is not detected during boot, BIOS or any post-installation of operating systems. When I switch back to the standard disk that followed the laptop, this disk gets detected immediately.

- I have the newest BIOS firmware 1.24, released 18 of June.
- I have tried changing the mode from AHCI to compatible mode.
- There is no new firmware update on the SSD disk.
- Supposedly, the Intel X25-M is having problems as well.

Anyone have any ideas how to deal with the issue?

Have you tested the drive with another computer yet? It's unlikely, but it might be defective.

Unfortuantely no. I don't know anyone with SATA support on their laptop :?

Still no solution so far :(

You can try using a USB adapter. Go to a computer with an operating system installed, plug in the USB adapter and then plug the SSD into the USB adapter and if the OS sees it then the drive is good. If the OS does not see it then there is probably a problem with the drive.

Thanks for the tip. I just tried it and it turns out that the SSD was working as supposed to be (no big surprise there). I guess the Lenovo SL series does not support the Intel SSDS yet, which is a real bummer.

Perhaps you should contact Intel. You should have some warranty/support.

That seems weird, it is a generic SATA drive and should work on any SATA port. I have an x25-m in my t61 ultrabay and it works fine. However, that ultrabay works via a sata-pata bridge. I haven't yet moved the ssd to the t61's primary (SATA) bay but want to do so soon.

I decided to return the SSD after endless of attempts to make it become detected. I haven't seen any SL-series thinkpad with either of the Intel SSDs models, maybe its too soon. The t61 on the other hand has had some time to mature.

Hopefully it changes in either the next BIOS update or SSD firmware update scheduled to be released 10th of August ..
