New WWAN card getting the white list 1804 error

I've gotten a wwan card (43R9151) for Verizon which should be on the white list but I'm still getting the 1804 error message on my new customized SL500. Is it possible that the bios has a white list that includes no listed cards, since I didn't opt to have it installed by IBM?
Has anyone been able to bypass this error? (Tech support suggested updating the bios with the card installed but that didn't change the error on booting.) Having the odd SL series BIOS, I haven't been able to find any online solution.

It would seem that the only card(s) listed in the
ThinkPad SL400/c & SL500/c Hardware Maintenance Manual are the Ericsson F3507g USA - Wireless WAN card - FRU: 43Y6477 and Ericsson F3507g Other - Wireless WAN card - FRU: 43Y6513 (aka retail part number:
43R1953). I am not sure if the Ericsson F3507g USA supports connection to the Verizon mobile network
As the Lenovo WWAN card you have - Part number: 43R1951 (aka FRU: 42T0961 - Qualcomm UNDP1) is not one of the supported cards for the ThinkPad SL series
(currently), this is
likely to be the reason for the 1804 error message
(due to not being on the BIOS whitelist?).

I am relying on Lenovo's web page where they sell the same 43R9151 WWAN card for Verizon for the SL500. It describes the 43R9151 as:
"Compatible with WWAN ready models of ThinkPad X200, X300, X301 T400, T400s, T500, W500, SL300, SL400 and
SL500 Series notebooks."

I have a suspicion that they have made the card they sell non generic and proprietary through the BIOS. I suspect their card will work (after you ante up the $169.00).
