Serial Port on SL400

Does the SL400 have the ability to pull out the CD Drive and add an adapter that adds a serial port. This is available for my T60. My friend is having a difficult time getting serial to USB adapter to work on his SL400. If the ultra bay option is not available might any have added a serial port via PCMCIA or Express Card slots?

The drive on the SL400 is not modular. There are slot card serial cards, but I've heard depending on the application, they may or may not work well.
