Setting up system ID for thinkpad SL500
Setting up system ID for thinkpad SL500
Hi, I just replaced the system board in a SL500, and I've got the HMD 1.75. But whenever I try to set the system ID i get the "EEPROM is write protected" error.
I'm running the disk off a USB floppy drive, and I've rebooted and tried hitting esc so many times I've lost count.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Setting up system ID for thinkpad SL500
For anyone that comes across the same issue, the SL series has its own separate HMD that you have to use.

Re: Setting up system ID for thinkpad SL500
Inside the .RAR file is a floppy-image with extension .DSK
To write this program to floppy, download the (30-day trial) program WinImage here: http://www.winimage.com/
In WinImage, create a floppy disk. Use it in a USB floppy-drive, works on any laptop as long as you have it enabled in the BIOS Startup.
That program WinImage can also unpack the .SDK file.
But even after pressing Esc upon booting to unlock EEPROM, the floppy software does not work.
It can read data, but not write.
I managed only to change the laptop's TYPE, using the BIOS update CD.

After trying the http://www.rom.by link's download, I got what I already expected.
The program is not V2.0 as indicated in that link, but V1.00.
And worse even: it does not work at all!
You really do need V1.01, as also indicated in the HMM:
