Does any one know what wwan card i can put in sl500? I want to put F5521gw (however it is very expensive card without any reason to be so extremly expensive) or Gobi 2000 (it cost only abut 30$) removed from HP. Is it possible, this whole whitelist trick is disgusting and IMHO should be dissallowed in UE. That's another way to pull out cash from customer without any technical or compatibilty reason. I need wwan card with support to UMTS at 900 MHz. Other cards with this support are OPTION GTM382E (non US version), Samsung GT-Y3100, MC8700, MC87004, MC8801. Will any of them work with regualar BIOS? Or where i can find bios to sl500 with removed whitelist?

The preferred WWAN card (according to the SL500 Hardware Maintenance Manual) is the Lenovo branded Ericsson F3507g - FRU: 43Y6513 - But unfortunately does support UMTS at 900 MHz.

Check out the My Digital Life forum for a possible solution to get around the BIOS whitelist - (It seems that you will need a Rapidshare account to download the required modded-BIOS's etc).

If you are able to get around the BIOS whitelist, the cards you mentioned (which support UMTS at 900 MHz) may work within your SL500 - note that also you may need to cover over Pin20 of the WWAN card (to prevent a BIOS disable signal if sent/present from reaching the card etc).
