Hi everyone,
I’ve been experiencing some issues with the battery life on my ThinkPad R500. It seems to drain much faster than expected, even with minimal usage. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, what solutions or troubleshooting steps have worked for you?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

The battery is probably faulty.

Unfortunately, batteries degrade over time and it's not unheard of for them to fall off a cliff or suddenly lose a significant amount of battery life in a short time. Given that the R500 is now being found regularly in archeology digs, , I'd say father time catching up with it seems the most likely cause, unless of course it's a newer replacement, in which case a defect seems more feasible.
As a place to start, I'd check the number of battery cycles, the number of times it's been charged, and the remaining charge capacity. For example my L14s battery has 43w of charge capacity out of 45w when it was new, so it still gets pretty good battery life now. If your cycle count is high and the remaining capacity is low, it may be time to consider a new battery. Good luck my friend and welcome.
