Thinkpad R400 Raid question

#1 Post by Geose » Fri Apr 28, 2017 6:44 pm

I picked up an R400 for 11$ as broken. And no surprise it was fully working. I'm wondering if i could install 2 Mini Pci-e/Msata drives in this thing, and if it could do a hardware raid. From what i can tell it can raid the 2 Sata drives. But i can't find anything that says it can or cannot raid Pci-e drives, or if it can even run them.

I have no R400 but have T400. There is no RAID option for it. AFAIK - the only Thinkpad of this era that can use RAID is W700 and it can take 2x 2.5" HDDs. You can check RAID setting in BIOS -> Configuration -> Serial ATA.
mSATA SSDs can be used only beginning from Xx20 series (T420, X220...). R400 can use Turbo Memory module, but it is main hard disk cashe reither than normal storage solution.
