Lenovo support draws a blank on my build # / serial
Hi there.
I have an old spares R500 which I got last year, and when I pump its "2718-W1X" build (or whatever you ThinkGeeks call this # ) into Leno SUpport, it draws a blank - NOTHING. It's a CTO, but I also have the serial # ... the only thing it shows up for that is "ThinkCentre" products, and they all show as my serial # suffixed with a dot, and then 4 digits... what the?!
My serial is: "L3-AFH6H 08/12"
If you can find anything, I would be grateful as I am trying to see what specs it had from new, as I may use it.
Many thanks.
Matthew.

Just 0.5c - serial # of your ThinkPad is L3-AFH6H. And 08/12 is the birth date of your ThinkPad.

You may want to check your BIOS.
The first 7 characters of System-unit serial number are the MTM.
The last 7 characters are the S/N.
Do they match with your sticker?

WOW, thanks! How come Lenovo's own site can't best this decoder? Gawsh, that puny Celeron can stay right where it is; I was going to take out the CPU and re-use it, had it been a good'un... but it can stay there and rot. Re: Lenovo support draws a blank on my build # / serial
I'm reasonably certain that the *00 systems are considered too old nowadays and have been dropped from the list of supported models.

The only thing that would make an R500 with a Celeron processor seem or feel sporty is a Linux OS of any build or flavor.

Really? So you're able to put in a serial from your *00 series ThinkPad and come back with a build sheet? Because that's what I was talking about.glossywhite wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2017 3:39 pmA trivial Google search of "R500 support" would show you the exact opposite to be true.

I didn't mention a build code in my last post, I merely demonstrated how trivial it was to pull up the Lenovo R500 support page, based on you having said:
"I'm reasonably certain that the *00 systems are considered too old nowadays and have been dropped from the list of supported models."
So I Googled "R500 Support" and got the Lenovo R500 support page, to show that they still support it. Who mentioned anything about a specific MTM or build? You may have assumed that, I didn't state it - if I had meant a specific MTM or build, or anything else apart from a trivial Google search, I absolutely would have clarified and stated that... I am one who abhors ambiguity and vagueness!

In case you haven't noticed, that's what this thread is about... ...your own inability to pull *anything* using a serial. With no fault on your end, at all.

Re: Lenovo support draws a blank on my build # / serial
Nice and polite, thanks for that.
Has the point that I was replying to you regarding the fact that you implied Lenovo has dropped support for *00 machines, and then I subsequently demonstrated with a trivial Google search that, in fact, that's not the case, totally passed you by? Before you fall into the trap of being supercilious and snotty, you may like to observe that I was, in fact, correcting your false assumption that had been your thinking this support had been ended, whereas it hasn't, as shown.
You are dragging the *overall* thread subject into a specific message I was answering, making me out to be stupid - well I have clearly and concisely demonstrated that the *00 models are still supported by Lenovo. Yes, my opening post was asking where I can find that info regarding my build sheet from my MTM, but my reply to you regarding your comment was later on in the thread, (AFTER the information was given to me with regards to how to find a build sheet)
Is that clearer for you, or have I missed anything?
*sigh*
Re: Lenovo support draws a blank on my build # / serial
You still haven't found a build sheet. And you likely never will since Lenovo has dropped support for *00 systems and the Parts Lookup will get you nowhere with the system from this era. What you have found is the original configuration which is something completely different, and even that wasn't provided to you by Lenovo.glossywhite wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2017 5:02 pm

You were not asking about drivers and other general support in your OP.
That's the point of my post which was replying to your original post.
Read what I wrote above, and comprehend. Or don't. I couldn't care less.Is that clearer for you, or have I missed anything?
