R400 shuts off randomly
My ThinkPad R400 has randomly shut off about 5 times now and I'm not sure why. It's just started doing this and it's never done it before. I just hope it's not a sign of the motherboard failing
. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Re: R400 shuts off randomly
We'd need to know more about the actual circumstances...does it shut down under full load ? When you put it to sleep ? Leave unattended ?

Re: R400 shuts off randomly
Well worst case you will need ro replace the mobo, but $20 does not seem that bad.
The best case is overheating due to dust etc.; P9600 works in low temps, however...

Re: R400 shuts off randomly
It's not doing it right now, but it usually does when watching youtube and youtube isn't really a heavy task for my R400.
My R400 runs cool with the P9600, Theirs also brand new thermal paste on it. So, I can *possibly* rule out the CPU.

Re: R400 shuts off randomly
YouTube is a bigger task on a C2D than you might think.
Download CoreTemp and get exact temperatures. A good C2D running cool should be pumping all the hot air it produces out the side of the machine. I know my X230 that has a much more power efficient i5-2520M will get to 75C underload, not terribly hot but it turns into a heat blowing machine. If it isn't blowing year, it isn't working right. My T500 blows heat all day long on a P8800 even at an idle.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

I would add that YouTube has gotten to be a bigger task on a C2D than it used to be.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 7:10 pmYouTube is a bigger task on a C2D than you might think.

Re: R400 shuts off randomly
I think that I've fixed the issue. I had a WPAN card in my R400 and later found out it was dead after testing it out in my latitude E6400. So, I believe that the WPAN card could have caused an internal conflict that made the computer shut off.
