Boot a "live" Linux CD/DVD/USB and check whether there's audio in that environment.

If there is, you have a driver problem in W7.

If not, the audio chip on the board has gone south.

Ok, I will definitely try that out soon, is there a common problem with the R500's audio chip? Also, there is artifacting occurring during windows animations.

Ok, so i just got to booting off of a fresh Ubuntu Linux drive and tested the audio. So far, there is more audio then before... The headphone jack works now... still no sound from the speakers though :( Also, it seems that the graphical artifacting is gone too, so were making progress...

Interesting.

I presume that you've checked the speaker connections to the board ? Possibly cleaned the connection port ? I really wouldn't know what else to suggest at this point.

As for the graphic artifacts, that R500 is one of the more common ones with integrated graphics, correct ?

If you have RAM in unmatched pairs eg. a 2GB and a 1GB, a 4GB and a 1GB, or a 4GB and a 2GB the Intel GMA 4500 graphics will become corrupted. see: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht001223

It can usually be solved by turning off Intel Virtualization Technology for Directed-IO (VT-d) in the BIOS. Then you can keep your mismatched RAM.

Or install RAM in matching capacities.

If the speakers do work, can it at least output beeps or not at all?

Alternatively, reinstall the sound drivers and see if anything changes. I don't think there is a driver corruption, but I think it is worth a check.

Well... at this point, I am starting to believe that the speakers are dead.

One thing though, you didn't tell whether if the speakers of your R500 could still output beeps. That is one sign that shows your speakers are still alive, but if they can't even sound a beep, then it is dead for sure.

Your going to need new speakers if you don't even hear beeps from the BIOS.
