Ultranav driver for W7 (R500)
Ultranav driver for W7 (R500)
Honestly I personally hate what Lenovo does with "updating" the drivers. All in all those systems worked perfectly fine when on old drivers, and now it's a pain in the thing.
I have installed all the drivers needed for everyday work (of course, needed to install old on-screen display drivers since the new ones do not display anything).
The thing is, I wanted to make the middle-trackpoint button work. And so I installed the ultranav driver. Result? Does not work, there is an ultranav icon under "mouse" tab in system properties, but it is grayed out.
So I decided to update ultranav utility. Result? Both touchpad and trackpoint stopped working, at all.
And so I installed old ultranav utility first. After fn+F8 combination it popped info "ultranav device not installed". Well, true.
Fo I tried to install new ultranav driver now. "No synaptics device present".
Tried with lenovo system update (the driver only). Middle button does not (still) work, but all the other functions do. However, "Ultranav" options in mouse settings are grayed out, and when trying to turn off touchpad, it turns off both touchpad and trackpoint; and this action is irreversible.
Do you guys have it working under W7? Is there some software-catch one should know like with the function keys functionality?

Re: Ultranav driver for W7 (R500)
Even though the Trackpoint is by Synaptics, the R500 and some X300 series use ALPS touchpads so a different Ultranav driver is required.
R500 Ultranav Driver 64 bit: https://support.lenovo.com/bg/es/downloads/ds013749
R500 Ultranav Driver 32 bit: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds013899
In my experience the ALPS touchpad actually tracks better and feels like the Synaptics touchpad if you use the basic Windows pointing device driver and do not install the above drivers. How to get around the missing Trackpoint functionality? Install the Trackpoint Driver used in Trackpoint only systems such as the X60, X200, etc.
X200 Trackpoint Drive 64 bit: https://support.lenovo.com/bg/es/downloads/ds003654
I have not tested this combination though and I no longer have an R500.
Ultimately to get the best touchpad in an R500 you'd have to physically replace it with a Synaptics out of any T400, R400, or T500 palmrest.

This one results in non-working touchpad and trackpoint. Not working at all.TPFanatic wrote: ↑Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:09 pmR500 Ultranav Driver 64 bit: https://support.lenovo.com/bg/es/downloads/ds013749

And this one just pumps out message "you can't install this driver on non-trackpoint system".TPFanatic wrote: ↑Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:09 pmX200 Trackpoint Drive 64 bit: https://support.lenovo.com/bg/es/downloads/ds003654

This one works with R400, T400, T500, W500 and probably also R500: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds019164

In Device Manager/Properties/Details, what is the Hardware ID?

EDIT: I was digging for a proper driver, but it does not seem like easy task. I have found a few, but none loads properly.

That's Alps.
There's a bunch of them here: https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/KEYBO ... ws-7.shtml
But that's the end for me.

And thank you very much. This is still not working, however.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Fri Nov 02, 2018 2:23 pmThat's Alps.

I have some couple of ideas here. Will try them out and share the effect. Hoping to get it working properly.

Just an idea, try it with a different keyboard.

This was close! It was... palmrest for some reason! Swapped palmrest, everything runs great.
