No sound from onboard speakers on R500

Hi,
I recently brought a R500 off ebay and it works well, but there is no sound coming from the built in speakers. I can get sound through the headphone jack but not from the speakers. It use to beep in the bios if you pressed random keys but it won't do that ether now.

Did you check to make sure the speakers are still plugged into the board?

Inspect the speakers visually. Given their age, the speaker diaphragm may have incurred damage.

I was able to get sound to come from the right speaker only after fiddling with the connector. The connector is completely inserted into the socket and i have sprayed contact cleaner into it as well.

Given the age of the machine (it's 12 years old already), broken wires are not unusual.
