My roommate's R500 is acting up again.

It will load to the point of the Windows XP screen (the title screen with the moving green bar) and freeze there.

Does anyone have either advice on what to do next or any thoughts on what the problem might be or is?

Try a Linux disc to see if it'll boot that way.

Go into BIOS and run the hard disk diagnostic (BIOS - hold down F1 on boot)
