Power supply for W510

#1 Post by sega_dude » Tue Aug 02, 2022 6:58 pm

I recently acquired a ThinkPad W510 (along with a Latitude E6500) from a garage sale for $15. The W510 didn't come with a power supply or a hard drive. I used a hard drive from another laptop I parted out. I figured the 65w power supply I have from my T500 would work. It does power the machine and it doesn't complain about it on boot. However, the screen is very dim. It's fine until it starts to boot into Windows. The screen is so dim that it's hard to see and kind of makes the machine unusable. Attempting to increase the brightness with the brightness keys has no effect. I think it may be because of the power supply I'm using based on what I read in another thread on this forum. Is this the reason why the screen is so dim? What is the proper power supply for this machine? What power supply originally shipped with this machine? The machine type is 4389-AN7.
