W520 second WiFi card?

#1 Post by u666sa » Sun Mar 05, 2023 9:22 am

What's going on guys. I'm still using my W520 4270CTO in 2023. I want 2nd WiFi card in a slot where you put SSD under the keyboard.

Now, I have several cards they are mPCIe. They won't work in that slot because the slot is mSATA?

What if I get an mSATA WiFi card?

IIRC there's no such thing as an mSATA WiFi card. If you want to have WiFi on the mSATA slot, you could use a mini PCIe to USB adapter on the mSATA slot, then plug a USB WiFi adapter in it. I did this on my X220 when its WLAN slot malfunctioned, with a TP-Link Archer T3U.

There aren't any free PCIe slots. Either use a USB 3.0 WiFi adapter, or somehow find a way to put a mini-PCIe WiFi card inside the Expresscard slot-- something that works like this but less ridiculous.
