Latest Modded BIOS for W-520 (and T-420 and T-520)

i'm a previous user of modded BIOS for T-420 (1.51 (83UJ32US)) and T-520 (1.48 (8AUJ29US)) which had the white list removed and displayed the Advanced BIOS settings. These have worked wonderfully well. (Full 16 GB RAM, Optimus NVS 4200, glossy AUO screens which are crystal clear) updated WiFi with latest drivers for Win 10 2004)

Unfortunately, one of my T-520s lost a motherboard, and I accidentally ordered a W-520 motherboard with the Quadro 2000 GPU by mistake. It does fit the T-520 frame, and will take 32 GB of RAM instead of 16 GB (which works for me, although it needs a different fan/heatsink, DC power socket and a 170 W power supply), so...

I've decided to keep it *IF* I can find a W-520 modded 1.46 (8BUJ25US) BIOS mentioned elsewhere at http://rgho.st/8JBjMm4mn (which appears to have had the file removed).

Were the T-420 1.52 (83UJ33US) and T-520 1.49 (8AUJ30US) BIOS available as well, I would be interested in those too to update my other systems.

If anyone has information on what the Advanced BIOS options are (more than just going into the BIOS and looking at the brief, but at times not too helpful, descriptions, I'd be interested in that as well.

I looked back through my old correspondence (3 years ago), and found an e-mail address for Oleh who did my previous BIOS as I never heard anything from Serg08. He's still in business, and the BIOS works greats with the Advanced menu unlocked.

I'm going to give this a try with 32 GB (4 x 8 SODIMMs) of G. Skill DDR3L 1866 (PC3L 14900) RAM with latencies of 11-11-11-32 as I do heavy database crunching.

Hi, is there any reason to prefer a W530 mobo over a W520 one if you install this BIOS? Does W530 still support more CPU-s in i7-3xxx generation?

I have no experience with T/W-530 swaps into T/W-520's. Perhaps others can help you. Same goes for T/W-530 modded BIOS.

Others maybe able to point you in the right direction.

Okay, I actually had a different question. I was wondering if this modded BIOS happens to support Ivy Bridge CPU-s e.g. i7-3xxx. Probably not?

Most likely not - BIOSs are quite specific for their own component configuration - the T-420, T-520 and W-520 are quite similar in that they all use Sandy Bridge, but the individual inventory of GPUs are somewhat different. Each BIOS has different stepping numbers that don't keep up with each other.

Thanks. My BIOS is at 1.42 atm. I got 1.46 from lenovo web site. Do I upgrade with the 1.46 vanila and then upgrade with the modded 1.46?

Not sure if that was stipulated over on the site where I first downloaded them from, but its usually the standard method and one I would advise doing, to use stock update first and then apply the modded version after.

Is there a key combo to enter into advanced bios menu? because on my modded bios there is any additional menu options in bios.

I have a t520 with cpu i5-2520M @ 2.50GHz and I want to upgrade it to i7-3630QM. My current bios is version 1.49 from Lenovo official web site and I am searching for a moded version of the same bios (or downgraded bios) so it can recognize the new cpu when installed. Anyone can provide a working link with the moded 1.49 bios?

Are you sure you are able to upgrade to i7-3630QM? It's next generation Ivy Bridge CPU, and W520 is Sandy Bridge. You are stuck with gen 2 CPUs. Your top CPU choices are 2860QM, 2920XM, 2960XM.
