Believe it or not my T410's mainboard was dead after someone chose to puke out of the window directly into me and the notebook while enjoying my coffee at a cafe directly below him... warranty void due to spillage

To cut long story shot, I bought a W510 to replace that. Thought a bigger screen and a faster processor will turn me on. Although resolution sucks at 1366x768, but just loved ThinkPad...

This is my issue, something I never experienced on my T410. I am someone who will close lid and hybernate, move somewhere, open lid, swipe thumbprint and start work again. But my W510 seems not to allow me to do that, whenever it hybernates, it will come back lagging all over... keyboard actions, mouse movement, scrolling ...

I believe there must be die hard ThinkPad user out there that can give me some advise?

I recently got a w510 too, although mine has the 1920x1080 screen, which I love, but as for your issue, I don't seem to experience it.

I have disabled the function that puts it in standby when I close the lid though. I personally find it annoying, but I'm thinking it may be just a setting that is making the difference.

There are three different actions you can select... actually four if you count shutting off, but you can have it lock the machine only, in which case you'd only need to swipe your finger or enter password, or you can have the machine go into standby, or hibernate. If it's taking considerable time to revive, then you probably have different settings from your old computer to the new one.

I don't recall exactly where the settings are, but the way mine is setup, if I close the lid, the screen will power off but the computer won't go into standby, then when I open it, there will be no delay but it will be locked so no one can access my desktop. This may be how you had your t410 setup.

It's also possible you have it set to hibernate. If that's the case, it will begin to look like its booting cold, but then it will say "resuming windows" and return to your last active state. This does take time, but not as long as a cold boot and it will return you to your previous state with any apps/windows still open.

Check your settings and once you get it working the way you want it, I think you'll agree the w510 is far superior to your t410 series. Besides the bigger size, it has both the integrated graphics your t410 had, and descrete nvidia graphics that you can use only when you need it. It's a much more powerful machine and I'm sure you'll learn to love it.

I definitely agree W510 is a far more superior machine as compared to my 'puked-upon' T410.

My issue wasn't the time it took to resume after I close lid, it was how my W510 behaved after it resumed, the entire machine seemed to slow down and I experienced keyboard and mouse lag as well.

However, this issue was solved after I did windows update (yes, left me wondering what could it be)!

I am a die-hard ThinkPad fan and I am trying hard not to hide its flaws
