I can't find much information on people using 8GB ram sticks on Thinkpads. Based on what I have read about reliability of ram, it sounds like 2x8GB is more reliable than 4x4GB if you want to get 16GB total.

There aren't many options for what to buy. I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with doing a 2x8GB configuration.

I'm thinking of getting these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820233217
for my W520.

I don't think the reliability of 4g sticks is in question, so if you have a four slot W520, I'd recommend going with 4x4g, as it's cheaper than 2x8g.

That said, if you think you'll eventually need more than 16G, you should consider starting with some 8G sticks.

It's pretty easy to return something at NewEgg should it not work.

I am running 4x8 GB modules from Elpida for almost a month now, works excellent.
