Does the W520 BIOS check for Lenovo drives?

I seem to remember that the T60 will refuse to recognize non-Lenovo hard drives. I'm wondering whether it's possible--and if so, whether it makes sense--to replace the system drive with something like a Seagate Momentus hybrid drive for more storage and performance than Lenovo offers directly.

...ummm ,,, never know any T6x Series has non-Lenovo HARD DRIVE issues - know of some T4x series did

I have had two T6x with Seagate Hybrid -NCQ series HD (both i think the 4GB-SSD)
Runs like charm ,,,, I think they been there since 2010 or might been earlier!
(they run fast ; but in T60 = HARD DRIVE is limited to the SATA-I series Buss( hardware limitations of these MB....but these drives are nore suited to SATAIII series laptops like in my W&T520)

Hope this helps

Cheers

I'm quite sure that it doesn't, since people have installed other SSDs in these machines with no BIOS issues.

By the way, I'd just suggest you get an mSATA drive and keep the 500GB 7200RPM drive that comes stock.
You'll get a bigger boost in speed over the Momentus XT and it will work 100% of the time.

All the contrary, the T60 was the first Thinkpad after the T4x generation that finally accepted any aftermarket SATA drive without any issues. This is one of the major reasons why i usually recommend people interested in buying a used Thinkpad to not bother about anything earlier than a T60.

I'm using third-party drives for both the mSATA SSD and the regular SATA.
