you cant. for security purpose, when you turn on the webcam, the indicator light will be on as well. there's no work around.

The thinkpad webcam has a sticker on top of the lens and green light. That sticker has holes for the indicator light and the webcam. You could peel off the sticker, put a very small piece of black construction paper ( like one or two square millimeter) on the sticky side of the indicator light hole, then reapply the sticker. Then you just need a program to record on startup and your problem is solved :/

My computer behaves differently. I have a T430, with Windows 7, 64 bit. I toggled on the camera, but i really didn't know much about it. I tried repeatedly to toggle the camera using Fn-F6, but the computer did not bring up anything. I finally decided to reboot the computer, in order to turn the green indicator light off. After I had closed everything I had open, I discovered the original Communication Settings window. It was still, open. I would have expected the open window to show up somewhere on the Taskbar, but it did not. When I closed the Communications Window, the green indicator light went out. It looks like some of Lenovo's Thinkvantage Tools do not behave very well. Every program, window, and document should show up on the Taskbar. That would save a lot of trouble. I probably spent the better part of an hour trying to turn the green light off.
