W701DS stuck in mini-dock

Hi all,

My W701DS is stuck in the W700 mini-dock. I ordered the recommended mini-dock for the W701DS.

If I push on the button, it moves with no resistance. The key is in the unlock position. I have tried moving the catches by sliding a thin metal ruler between the laptop and the dock, and they will not budge.

I have also unscrewed the base of the dock, but it will not separate fully, so I've tried to have a look inside and I cannot even see any mechanism underneath the button - so I certainly can't see what is broken!

Nothing seems to be rattling around - I am at a loss as to what I should do! (Apart from taking a dremel to the mini-dock!)

The W701DS is big enough as it is, and it was hard to find a case to fit it - now it has the end of the dock sticking out. I really need to find a soluton to this. Any suggestions will be greatly welcomed.

Many Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear of your trouble.

Unfortunately I can't think of a way to undock your ThinkPad. If your W701ds is still in warranty this problem should be covered. If not under warranty I would still call tech support and ask them for suggestions.

Hopefully someone else here has some other thoughts.

Brad

dental floss has helped in similar cases, different model.
Or any thin but strong thread, pulled various ways between
laptop and dock

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, another 2 years on warranty, so I should give them a call - not sure if accessories are covered, the dock wasn't purchased at the same time.

Dental floss a good idea - although I can't budge the catches with a metal ruler or knife, so I don't think it would be strong enough. I'll give it a try though.

Thanks again.
