Does the W520 support SATA III SSD's? (6Gb/s) I have to say I am really loving my W520... Nary a hiccup.
Thanks to all you knowledgeable folks on these forums.

Ok, found my answer now that I'm home. I think a Samsung 830 might be in my future, dunno yet. Tnx all and sri for the wasted bandwidth.

Yes, all Sandy Bridge ThinkPads, which would include the W520, are SATA III machines, but there's little practical difference between SATA II and III. The real benefit of a SSD is the near instantaneous seek times, which won't change with going from SATA II to III.
Your W520 can also accept a mSATA SSD in the miniPCI port if you don't need WWAN. It would allow you to keep a larger platter drive in the main bay for storage while still getting the benefit of a SSD.

From what I understand, the HDD bay is SATA3, the ODD bay is SATA2 and the MiniPCIe/MiniSATA port is also SATA2.
