W520 - Can't Switch to Trackpoint

Got a new W520-42844KG and I can't get the trackpoint to work.

With BIOS at default (both touchpad and trackpoint enabled) boot up and only the touchpad works.

Fn F8 gives 3 choices:

1. Enable trackpoint & touchpad - this doesn't work at all, always returns to option 3.
2. Enable trackpoint only - this disables the touchpad but trackpoint still doesn't work.
3. Enable touchpad only - touchpad works as expected.

Got the latest Ultranav drivers & BIOS from Lenovo. In Ultranav settings "Enable Trackpoint" is ghosted out.

Also if I remove the Ultranav drivers and just use the default windows mouse drivers the touchpad works but trackpoint still doesn't work.

Don't think this is a hardware fault with the trackpoint as if I enable trackpoint only in the BIOS then the trackpoint works fine.

Any clues as to what's wrong ?

Just updated BIOS from 1.34 to 1.35 - no change.

Do any of you out there have a W520 where you can change between trackpad & trackpoint with Fn F8 ?

If so what versions of BIOS, ultranav driver & ultranav utility are you running ?

Cheers
Neil

There is a 4276-37U at my work that I can try this afternoon. It has always been set to both trackpoint and trackpad enabled at the same time.

That is weird that it only works if it is selected as the only option in BIOS.

OK booted from an Ubuntu 11 CD and the problem remains so looks like I can't blame the Windows drivers, looks like a BIOS problem.

Trackpoint works fine if it alone is enabled in BIOS but not if enable together with the touchpad.

This is with both 1.34 & 1.35 BIOS, anywhere I can download old BIOS version from to try ?

Cheers

It sounds to me like you may have a hardware issue needing warranty repair. If it is still within the exchange period from where you bought it, maybe you could get it swapped out.

I tried it on the W520 at my work and it all works as it is supposed to do. I think it said BIOS version was 1.27. I don't think reverting to an old BIOS is going to fix it. If Lenovo diabled this trackpoint functionality with a new BIOS, I am sure that we would see a ton more posts from angry users about it on the boards.

Many thanks Jayton, I'm sure your right, it's a hardware fault.

Just tried BIOS 1.28 and it's just the same.
