AMD 6990HD in a W520?

#1 Post by WA2SI » Thu Feb 23, 2012 2:40 pm

Has anybody ever heard of anyone upgrading a W520's GPU beyond the Quadro 2000M, i.e. GTX 580M or 6990HD? Is it even possible?

I assume that the answer is no. Take care, folks. Btw, my W520 is still humming along like a champ.

The chip is hard-soldered to the board, so you can't upgrade it.

There are some high-performance mobile GPUs that take cards, this isn't one of them; mostly due to the way the cooling system works (one heatsink is not enough for loads in excess of about 80W).

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.
