W520 UltraBay question

#1 Post by npish » Wed May 02, 2012 6:08 pm

Well, it's the dawn of a new era as I've decided to upgrade from my beloved T60p to a monster W520 (FHD, SSD, the works-- I'm pretty excited.) I'm wondering, with respect to the UltraBay on the W520, should I be able to insert the HDD from my T60p for use as a secondary hard drive?

Thanks for any input.

Yes, but the W520 requires a new HDD ultrabay adapter.

ok thanks Takeda; doing a quick search, looks like it's this one?

checking out the support page though, I don't see my HDD-- Hitachi 100GB 7200 rpm (HTS723210L9SA60)-- included in the compatibility list; should it still work with this adapter?

Any 9.5mm or 12.5mm (heights) 2.5 inch hard disk should work in the Ultrabay. I use a 1TB Hitachi 9.5mm in my T420's Ultrabay with no issues whatsoever.

Before you buy the adapter/caddy, be aware of the 9.5mm vs. 12mm issue and decide whether you're willing to deal with the gap.

This. You have the option of buying a 12.7mm caddy from newmodeus (scroll up to the banner for their ad) as I did for my T420 in my sig. No gap, color matches and no, I don't work for them, but didn't like the fitment of the ultrabay slim HDD adapter from my T410 (9.5mm) in my T420.
