Has anyone compared the newmode.us one (up in the ads up top) vs. this one on fleabay?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2nd-hard-drive- ... 53e8c0665f

They both appear to be able to handle 12.7mm drives...but one is less than half the price of the other... :D
Looks like the fleabay one is missing a drive activity light.

I haven't; I use two of the real ThinkPad hard-drive caddies. The first one, I bought on Amazon for about $45 shipped. The second one--the reason I'm replying--came for free--unadvertised--when I bought a 2503 Advanced Dock on eBay for $38 shipped.

I stayed with the ThinkPad brand because some Amazon reviewers warned that 3rd-party caddies were inconsistent. I don't know if that's true; to be honest, I felt guity paying $45 for a ThinkPad caddy when alternative brands were (and are) available for less than $20 shipped.

FWIW, I got the Nimitz one off fleabay and have been happy. It has an activity light and fits well.

I've bought three of them from North American sellers on fleabay - the latest set was from ny-compu-tek who took a best offer of $20 for two of them. They all seem to work fine in both W520's I have (even with a Samsung 830 SSD which ran at SATA III speeds) and in a W510 I just got. However none of them have working activity light. The last seller responded to a query about it saying that although it looked like the LED was on the edge of the caddy it was just "ornamental".

I like getting these for far less than IBM brand and they fit the 12.7 mm bay just fine but I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a working activity LED.
