W700ds Palm Rest Flex - Normal?

#1 Post by LavaChild » Thu Jul 26, 2012 3:06 am

Hello!

Yesterday I replaced the terrible keyboard on my W700ds with a T60 keyboard which does not suffer from keyboard flex. The replacement keyboard is excellent and really makes using the laptop much more enjoyable.

However! In replacing the keyboard and reinstalling the palm rest you are to apply pressure all around the perimeter (particularly the top edge - that nearest the keyboard) for all of the clips to click in place. In doing this I noticed that the top edge of the palm rest just under the Windows key has a minor flex. It is not noticeable in use but is when you apply direct pressure (say, with two fingers).

I had no reason to apply pressure in this way before installing the new keyboard and therefore I do not know if it did this before and if so if it is normal.

So, is this normal? Or have I somehow caused some damage when reinstalling the keyboard? I was *incredibly* careful and so I find this unlikely but I'd appreciate some reassurance!

Thanks! :)
