W510 (4389-A36) screen colors

#1 Post by marzata » Wed Oct 17, 2012 7:23 am

Hi,

I work mostly graphics and images. And I just bought new Lenovo ThinkPad W510 (4389-A36) at a very discounted price. Great machine. It has no color calibration in it. It runs fine Linux (and Windows). But there is a problem with its screen. The colors are too bright and overexposed. I have other ThinkPads (X, L series, etc.) and they have nice normal colors. What could be a possible solution for this screen?

Thank you.

Have you checked the Gamma setting under Graphics Properties? Is Color Enhancement set to defaults?

Thank you but gamma corrections in Nvidia settings don't change the overexposed and too bright colors. It is painful to watch them for a long time. Some other ideas? Thanks!

The new ThinkPad W510 (4389-A36) I bought came with 15.6" LED FHD (1920x1080) display and no color calibration. I have two problems with this screen. It is with very high resolution (shows things too small) and the colors are very saturated, probably because of the high color gamut of 95%. Because the machine is just superiour (running Xubuntu) I would like to buy a new normal matte display 15.6" LED HD+ (1600x900) from http://goo.gl/K10Hk. Will W510 recognize that screen and are there any obstacles I can meet? I need an advice as soon as possible because if I can't replace the screen I am afraid I will have to return the laptop to the shop. Thank you!
