Software GPU acceleration with W500 FireGL 5700

#1 Post by precip9 » Mon Dec 31, 2012 7:59 pm

I took a course that temporarily gives eligibility to educational software discounts, so it might be time to stock up.

Does anyone have experience with current software that accelerates with the FireGL 5700 ?

Confusion is created by the fact that AMD reused "5700". FireGL 5700 supports OpenGL (Open Graphics Language) , but, unless backwards compatible, modern graphics programs typically require OpenCL (Open Computing Language).

To avoid confusion, please respond only if you're currently running a graphics intensive program with GPU acceleration on a W500.

I have played a lot of games on my W500.

A lot of GPU intensive, like: Company of Heroes, Call of Duty and battlefield 3
Thinkpad W500 (2.53 GHz P8700, 4 GB RAM, FireGL V5700, WUXGA)
Thinkpad T61F 14" (2.53 GHz QX9300, 6 GB RAM, Quadro FX570m 256 MB, SXGA). Advanced dock with AMD Radeon HD7750
Custom build ITX desktop (i5 4590, 8GB RAM, AMD R7 260X, custom watercooling)
Thinkpad 8, Fujitsu F-07C

FS: T61F
