I noticed the W700/W700ds CPU options were the Q9000, Q9100 and the QX9300, for the Core 2 Quad options. Out of curiosity, I googled the gap, Q9200 and found out that the Q9200 is an actual non-released Core 2 Quad. Even cooler: when you pull it up on ebay, people are selling working Q9200s. They all seem to be ES (Engineering Samples), basically fully-working pre-production models.
I'm wondering if it'll work in the W700. I kinda don't see why it wouldn't, but I'm still a bit skeptical. I'd really like to install one, because the ones on ebay are quite a bit cheaper than the QX9300, the Quad Extreme, and they're stock clocked at 2.33-2.4 GHz, nearly as fast as the Extreme and quite a bit faster than the Q9000 already in my W700. Best of all-because these are ES, they've got unlocked multipliers, so overclocking is possible.
W700 + Q9200 = ?

W700 + Q9200 = ?
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

If you are willing to spend the money to test it & resell it if it fails to post, then go for it!
I'd say you have a 95%+ chance of it working. I can't really see why it wouldn't. I've seen ES AMD opterons pop up on ebay now and again & they seem to work with all vendors (looked into this a while back). I'd say you're safe, but I can't confirm it.
Would I do it? Probably order it, if the price was right, because I think there's little risk.

Re: W700 + Q9200 = ?
I might go for it if I get enough money in. Even if it doesn't work in the W700, I'd probably hold onto it. They seem kinda rare.
You hardly see the mobile C2Q CPUs anyway, so the Q9200 is probably gonna be very hard to come across in maybe on or two years time.

Have you any progress with q9200?Medessec wrote:I might go for it if I get enough money in. Even if it doesn't work in the W700, I'd probably hold onto it. They seem kinda rare.
