Does your W520 display look worse/dimmer on Intel graphics?

#1 Post by bomgd3 » Thu Jan 31, 2013 9:20 pm

Hey everyone,
I'm a new owner of a Lenovo W520 and loving it so far. I an strongly attached to my W510, but I really enjoy the increase in power (particularly graphical) and the strong battery life of the W520.

One WEIRD thing I noticed. My desktop looks noticeably dimmer and less vibrant on battery power, even with brightness at 100%! When I compare it to my W510, both computers look identical on AC adapter, but when I unplug the W520, the desktop flashes black for a moment (presumably to switch to integrated) and the desktop wallpaper definitely looks crappier.

This is weird to me because obviously the wallpaper is 2D, and therefore the graphics card should have little-to-no effect on the appearance, right? Theoretically that would be true, but my W520 display is definitely different on battery power.

Anyone else noticed this? Any explanations for the difference?

Wait, never mind, it was some silly Intel setting that mucks with the brightness of my display on darker screens i.e. my desktop wallpaper. It does so in a really subtle manner that makes me think my eyes are driving me crazy. "Is it dimmer? Is it just me? ARGH!"

Dumb feature.
