W520 modem installation?

Hello,

My W520 wasn't configured from the get go to have a modem. I wonder if I can purchase parts and install a 56K modem? I need it to send and receive faxes once in a while. If I can, then please give me a parts list.

Thanx.

Pretty sure there was no option for an internal modem on the W520 (I know I couldn't get one when I ordered mine).
You might need to resort to an external USB modem.

No, there was an option, but you had to call them and ask for it. There is even a review of w520 on youtube and the reviewer has a modem on his thinkpad.

My notebook has a blank on place of rj11, I'm pretty sure it can be replaced with a port.

I have bought a personal w520 and one used exclusively for work. The personal one had the modem jack covered up. My other w520 does indeed have a modem jack. I'm staring at it right now. I'm old school, ad thought maybe I'd need it. I wish they still came with serial port option. I still need to console to lots of stuff.

I never knew that the modem was an option. My W520 definitely has a modem with RJ-11 on the back side though.

But eh.. as far as I know there are providers that offer online fax. Meaning you send mail to a certain mailadress, and the provider behind that turns it into a regular fax for the recipient.

I also know small businesses that have it the other way
