Another question for Mini Dock Series 3 and 170W

Hello,

At the beginning sorry if this post is similar to others.

My personal one is T410 and for work I have received W520.

At home I have "ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3" and using 90W adapter
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... MIGR-72871

And I'm thinking what to do due to compatibility issue. I've tried to put W520 into this station and it's working, but also consuming battery while connected (with 90W).

I've read on forum that I could cut internal yellow teeth from the plug and use it in my docking station.
But mine is without "Plus" word, would that be a problem?
Also I don't like the idea of doing such a mod to my business accessories (which are not really mine).

I was thinking of buying my own 170W and mod it... and while searching I have found something like that:

Funny part is that there are no yellow teeth in the plug. Is it really genuine original Lenovo product? That would be great, no mod require.

Or maybe I could find 135W? Will it work with docking station and W520?

Thanks for any suggestions :)

If you have the 4337 dock, then the 135W adapter will work fine with the W520. I have done so. The 170W adapter will not fit because of the teeth. I have not tried to modify the 170W.

Great info, thanks :)
It won't decrease performance or be a disadvantage in any way?

No, it runs at 100% with either 135w or 170w. As you found with the 90w, it will not charge the battery.

I concur with the above, I have this dock for use with my T420 (I bought the dock on the outlet with the 135 watt adapter) and it works flawlessly with my W520 from work.
