Mouse and Keyboard must be unplugged and replugged to work

Lately, I'be been having to unplug and plug back in my mouse and keyboard to get them to work at the log-in screen.

I've been using the same mouse and keyboard for a few years without a hitch until now.

The problem has also come and gone a few times over the last two or three months.

Any ideas?

I just realized that this problem seems to have gone away. I have no clue why.

I did let CCleaner run somewhat free recently but I can't remember if it had gone away before or coincident with it.
