What screen to put in W500 ?
So I am about to buy W500 and as I read in almost every review, they have terribly dim screens.
I would like to replace the screen with another one, either WSXGA+ or WUXGA (I don't really care) as long as it provides better and brighter picture.
Does anyone know what screens could I use for that purpose?

Well, not all of them are terrible, only the Samsung ones...
You can use any LG Philips WUXGA from T61/p, Z61p and W500 and they're quite nice. The same goes for WSXGA+.
There's also a Sharp WUXGA (which was used in Dells from the same era I believe) that quite a few folks were excited about, although I've never tried it myself.

Thanks. I read the thread on German thinkpad forum about that Sharp. I will have my eyes open.
Do you know manufacturer part numbers of the good LG screens?

I received my new W500 and it turn up with a Samsung screen. However, not that unfamous but rather LTN154U2-L05 from T61p, and I must say it is MUCH better in terms of brightness and possibly in colour reproduction than the Samsung screen in my old R61.

Re: What screen to put in W500 ?
I have a Sharp WUXGA in my T500. Boy that panel is gorgeous! Light years better than the original Lenovo WUXGA screens! (Samsung and LG I believe)
I bought it brand new, so it doesn't come as a surprise that it is still very bright. (I'd rate it at above 200 nits, have even used it outdoors during summer!)
It also offers great colors and viewing angles. However, it is a different Sharp than the one mentioned in the German forums. That specific panel is not actually available anywhere. Also, mine wasn't a plug and play panel and needed some slight modifications to the frame in order to fit.

That's interesting. What model number is that? And did you have to modify connectors?

Model number is LQ154M1LW02. No modifying of the connector was necessary. Only the frame had to be cut/hacked.Lockheed wrote:That's interesting. What model number is that? And did you have to modify connectors?
