[W500] Battery suddenly died?

#1 Post by Kogey » Wed Aug 07, 2013 10:42 am

Hey, I was sitting at a table while eating breakfast watching Top Gear when suddenly my laptop shut off, my battery meter said I had about 40% charge still, so I grab my power cable, plug it in and now it says my battery has failed due to normal wear? How could this happen when it's been working fine the past 5 months I've had it and still holding a decent charge (About 2 and a half hours) and just suddenly dead. Is this common?

It's an official Lenovo extended battery manufactured in 2009 and it came used with my W500

The controller chip in the battery has decided that it's time for your battery to be pronounced dead and there's nothing you can do about it.

Get a (genuine Lenovo) battery with Panasonic cells, they usually last twice as long as their Sanyo/Sony counterparts.

Good luck.

Well, then you were just plain unlucky. I've never had this happen with a Panasonic battery, and I've gone through hundreds of them.
