Can't get Fire GL V5700 video driver installed

#1 Post by mackconsult » Fri Oct 25, 2013 5:05 pm

My Lenovo runs solidworks 2013 SP5.0. I tried installing autocad last night for some work at my job, it did not work right so I uninstalled all the autodesk components. Then started having issues with my lenovo crashing so uninstalled solidworks and the video card driver.

Upon reboot the Radion HD 3650 driver has been installed and I can't get the Fire GL V5700 back installed.

I wrote the drive name down in my notebook and it said that GL V5700 was installed previously, and solidworks ran fine. Now solidworks is very slow in rotating and refreshing the screen.

Can some one help me get the V5700 back on my Lenovo????

Any help greatly appreciated. I am in the middle of a big product development project and here solidworks is not working correctly now .....

If you have "System Update" installed on your system (if it's the original factory image, it should be installed), just run it, and let it do it's magic. According to Lenovo; "ThinkVantage System Update downloads data updates for Lenovo software, drivers and BIOS from a Lenovo server directly over the Internet without requiring specific user knowledge". Looks like just what you need.

Just a question of curiosity...why is the Radion HD 3650 driver even on your system, if it doesn't have that GPU?

I believe that the GL5700 is basically the same as a HD 3650 there is just more memory CPU and a different video driver assigned to match up with it.

I think I removed that update utility but will go back and re-install it again to see if that will help.

I second Neil. Download the latest System Update from Lenovo to get the drivers installed in the right order. There should be no more than 5 restarts. Easier than figuring out the correct order to install them in. Just remember to uninstall System Update afterwards. You might need to roll back the audio driver to get a working microphone.

Well I finally gave up and did a fresh install. The V5700 driver go installed after using the lenovo update application.

Then all of the sudden I saw exaclty what I saw before with horizontal lines appearing on my displays. Installed the lenovo fan utility and noticed how hot everything was running. So pulled it apart and blew everything out.

Seems to be running fine now.

Thanks for the all the help folks.
