Hard drive compatibility

Hello. My old Toshiba laptop finally died today but the hard drive still works fine, so I was wondering if it would work with a ThinkPad W510. I'd look it up but I don't know much about hardware. Please let me know what info you need on the hard drive.
Sorry I'm so bad with this.

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
The W510 takes 2.5" wide and 9.5mm high SATA (Serial ATA) disk drives. If you can give us the model number from the Toshiba drive, we should be able to figure out if it can be used in the W510. Please note that while the drive might physically fit in the Thinkpad, don't expect the operating system that's on the Toshiba drive to work with the Thinkpad hardware.

It's a HTS541161J9SA00 (I think I got that weight)
And don't worry about the OS, I need to reinstall Gentoo as the file system somehow failed big time just before the old laptop fan broke.

It should work just fine.
Throw it in and regen the OS.

If it is a HTS54161J9SA00 (54161, not 541161), then yes, what you have is a 160GB 5400RPM SATA drive from Hitachi and it should work in the W510.
